Watercolour Madness!

We tried a new medium today - watercolour! We used watercolour paints and watercolour pencils. We also got to spray our art to make it run - check out what the colours do in the timelapse at the end of the video.

Dye as a medium

Sam L
"We went outside to look at the mountains to do our art work. We did mountains. It was fun. I love dye."

Audrey
"Art. I made art with dye. The dye goes on the paper. My colours were brown and orange. I needed to brush the brush in the side of the box. It was mountains."

Elsie
"On Wednesday we made mountain artwork. It is fun. I know that it stains. I love dye."

Olivia
"Today I made a mountain picture with dye. It was tricky with the trees. One of them was orange and the other one was brown."

Luana
"We made some blue dye. It was so much fun. You could use it on paper and card."

Cruz
"Today we went for a walk up to the courts. We looked at mountains. It was fun. We used dye."

Tessa
"I made a mountain artwork. It was made out of dye. We also made trees of dye. We did two. I made two types of mountains. A thick brush and a skinny brush. I did the opposite of fat and skinny."

Busy Builders

We have been collaborating to build our houses. We have been learning to share equipment, make sure everyone takes part and share our ideas. We have also been following a criteria. :)

This Is My Castle

We are showing growth mindsets in writing. We are using our word cards to help us find words and sounds. Here William shows the results of hard work and a lot of thinking.

Visit From the WSCA

We had a visit today from the WSCA. We shared some songs, read books to them and told them all about our habitat. It was great to share our learning with our visitors.

A Hovering Visitor

We were so lucky to have a visit from a helicopter! Mrs Clarke's husband Shaun is a helicopter pilot and Shelly is a paramedic. They work together to help hurt people in the Wakatipu. It was so exciting to wait for the chopper to land on our school field. We use experiences like this to inspire us in writing time.

Children's responses:

Olivia: It was noisy. Helicopters start with 'h' Miss Eve. (It's our sound of the day!)

William: It was cool going inside it and I liked the propellers.

Elsie: I thought it was weird that they didn't have a boot in the back of the helicopter because when I saw my first helicopter they had a boot where they put all their stuff.

Thomas: It has a spinning thing on the back and on the top. On the top it had a lot of things. The rescue helicopter comes when you need it.

Tim: I liked going through the helicopter. When I went up the steps and when I went down the steps myself.

Let's Get Curious About Change

We will be learning all about charge next term. What does change mean? We will be thinking and learning about change in me, change in my family, change in my community and change in my world. Here is some of our great thinking so far.

We Love Words

We love words in Kimi Akau. We are learning to read and write lots of different words. We can learn them through stories and poems.

Curious Collaborating Creations

We have been collaborating this afternoon. To make our collage we have been glueing pieces of fabric and finding blank spaces for them on our river art piece. It's very effective when you have different shades of blue. "It looks really pretty and I like that shiny shade of blue. It shines a lot and it will match in with the glitter." -Elsie, 5
